The role of exercise in improving blood flow and the circulatory system

Exercise can indeed cure or improve erectile dysfunction (ED) as it is beneficial for the circulatory system, ensuring smooth blood flow throughout the body. Regular exercise can help men with their erections, as ED is often caused by blood flow problems to the penis. High-intensity aerobic training, like running or swimming, is one of the best ways to improve blood flow and decrease the risk of developing ED (Dec 3, 2021).

The importance of pelvic floor muscles in maintaining erections

The ischiocavernosus and bulbocavernosus muscles in the pelvic area surround the penis and are active during an erection (Dec 1, 2022).Pelvic floor exercises, also known as Kegel exercises, can improve the strength of these muscles, which are key in sustaining blood flow to the penis and maintaining erections.

The muscles do this by preventing blood from flowing out of the erect penis.

Kegel exercises: benefits and application for men and women

Studies have shown that performing regular Kegel exercises, which target pelvic floor muscles, can help reduce ED within a few months (Apr 13, 2016). Kegel exercises are considered the best exercise routines for people suffering from erectile dysfunction. In addition to improving sexual health, Kegels also promote urinary continence and are performed by women in preparation for and to regain muscle tone after childbirth.

The impact of exercise on erectile function in men with vascular ED

According to a 2018 study on physical activity's impact on ED, aerobic exercises are proven to fight the effects of ED if practiced at least four times a week (H Gerbild · 2018). Exercises should last at least 40 minutes, and a steady routine should be maintained for at least six months to see improvements with ED. Overall, weekly exercise of 160 minutes for six months contributes to decreasing erectile problems in men with ED caused by physical inactivity (H Gerbild · 2018).

Physical activity recommendations for men with ED caused by physical inactivity, obesity, hypertension, and metabolic syndrome

Can exercise cure or improve erectile dysfunction?Men with erectile dysfunction can improve their sexual function with 40 minutes of aerobic exercise, four times a week (Dec 11, 2018). Recommendations of physical activity to decrease ED should include supervised training consisting of 40 minutes of aerobic exercise of moderate to vigorous intensity four times per week. A person with ED will often see improvement after making lifestyle changes, reducing the need for medication and benefitting overall health in the long term (Aerobic exercise).

The link between exercise, testosterone levels, and confidence

Staying fit not only improves penile blood flow but also keeps a man's weight under control, potentially increasing his testosterone levels and boosting his confidence. Regular exercise may actually help prevent some prostate disorders and improve prostate health (Apr 26, 2011).

The effects of exercise on depression, anxiety, and sexual performance

Exercise can also reduce depression and anxiety, which can affect erections as well as other aspects of sexual performance. Adjusting the diet and performing exercises, particularly those that target the pelvic floor muscles, can help to reduce or eliminate ED. Recent studies have found that exercise, especially moderate to vigorous aerobic activity, can improve erectile dysfunction, even less strenuous and regular exercise might reduce the risk of erectile dysfunction, and increasing the level of activity might further reduce the risk (A person with ED).

In conclusion, exercise can significantly contribute to the improvement or even cure of erectile dysfunction. Engaging in regular aerobic exercises, Kegel exercises, and adopting a healthy lifestyle can benefit men suffering from ED and enhance their overall health and well-being.
